بعد المصادقة على قرار تقسيم فلسطين سنة 1947 م من طرف هيئة الأمم المتحدة إلى دولة عربية وأخرى يهودية إلى جانب منطقة القدس الدولية أعلنت الصهيونية سنة 1948 م عن قيام دولة إسرائيل فشرعت في تقوية جيشها ومصادرة أراضي الفلسطينيين وتشريدهم ، نتجت عنها حرب 1948 م التي زادت في توسيع رقعة إسرائيل على الخريطة.

استطاع الفلسطينيون في الشتات تأسيس منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية سنة 1964 م ، وفي سنة 1974م تم الاعتراف بها بصفتها الممثل الشرعي الوحيد للشعب الفلسطيني في قمة الرباط ، كما اعترفت بها الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة.
