ولد الملك عبد العزيز في 19 ذي الحجة بمدينة الرياض عام 1293هـ / 1876م و نشأ في كنف والده ، الذي عهد به إلى الشيخ القاضي عبد الله الخرجى ، فتعلم مادتي القراءة و الكتابة على يديه ، و حفظ بعضا من سـور القران الكريم ، ثـم قرأه كاملا على الشيخ محمد بن مصيبيح ، كما درس جانبا من أصول الفقه و التوحيد على الشيخ عبد الله بن عبد اللطيف آل الشيخ . و عرف عنه ولعه بالفروسية و ركوب الخيل منذ صباه .

شملت هذه الجهـود كثيرا من مظاهر الحياة حينذاك السياسية ، والإداريـة و الاقتصاديـة و الاجتماعية فمن إنشاء الهجر التي عزم على إقامتها من أجل جمع شمل القبائل و توفير البيئة الاجتماعية المناسبة لخدمتهم و تحسين معيشتهـم و دمجهـم في مجتمـع واحـد إلى اهتمامه بالسياسة منذ دخوله الرياض حيث وضع أسسها و مبادئها على تأسيس دولة حديثة تستند على الشريعة الإسلامية و السنة النبوية في نواحيها كافة.
