الغزو العراقي للكويت هجوم شنه الجيش العراقي على الكويت في 2 أغسطس 1990 استغرقت العملية العسكرية يومين وانتهت باستيلاء القوات العراقية على كامل الأراضي الكويتية في 4 أغسطس ثم شكلت حكومة صورية خلال 4 - 8 أغسطس تحت مسمى جمهورية الكويت ثم أعلنت الحكومة العراقية يوم 9 أغسطس 1990، ضم الكويت للعراق وإلغاء جميع السفارات الدولية في الكويت، إلى جانب إعلان الكويت المحافظة 19 للعراق وتغيير أسماء الشوارع والمنشآت ومنها تغيير اسم العاصمة الكويتية .
