احتلت المملكة المرتبة الثانية عالميا في انتاج التمور واهمية التمور محصولا وطنيا استراتيجيا يتميز بقيمتة الغذائية واهميته الاقتصادية ودوره في تحقيق الامن الغذائي وبدا قطاع تصنيع التمور بالمملكة قبل مايزيد على 49 عاما حيث انشئ اول مصنع لمعالجة وفرز وتعبئة وكبس التمور وهو المصنع الاهلي النموذجي لتعبئة التمور بالمدينة المنورة الذي بدا انتاجة في عام 1964م.
