الإدمان هو مشكلة نفسية لدى شخص مضطرب وهو آفة اجتماعية و مشكلة قانونية خطيره و لها آثار سيئة متعدده على الفرد و الأسره و المجتمع لأن المدمن قد يلجأ إلى أي وسيلة للحصول على مادة التعاطي كالكذب و السرقة و التزوير. و ذلك يؤثر تأثيراً سيئا على على عمله و على حياته الزوجية و الاجتماعية. من المؤسف أن أكثر الفئات العمرية تعاطياً للمخدرات هم الشباب خاصة أنهم هم الثروة الحقيقية داخل أي مجتمع.

و يحدث الادمان نظراً لأفكار و معتقدات خاطئة، فهي تلعب دوراً مهماً في سلوك المدمن. و فيما يلي عدد من الأفكار و المعتقدات لدى الشباب العربي حول الدور التي تلعبه مواد التعاطي، و ما يرتبط بها من أوهام السعادة و الشعور باللذه، فيشاع في وسط المتعاطين و المدمنين انها :
انها تنسي الإنسان هموم الحياة
، و تشعر الإنسان بالسعادة
، الادمان يجعل الشباب يفكرون بلا شيء
، الادمان يجعل الفرد يعمل فترة طويلة بلا تعب.

و كل هذه المعتقدات ماهي إلا مشاعر زائفة وأوهام ، فهل تعمل المخدرات على حل مشكلات الشباب ؟

أضرار الإدمان و مخاطره على الشباب

1- قد أثبتت الدراسات بأنه توجد علاقة موجبة بين التعاطي وارتكاب الجريمة ، وخاصة جرائم العنف والسرقة والبغاء .
2- أشارت دراسات أمريكية حديثة إلى الارتباط بين وقوع حوادث الطرق والإدمان وخاصة الكحول والحشيش .
3- اعتلال صحة المدمنين جسديًا و نفسيًا
4- الوفاة جراء تناول جرعة زائده.

و الوقاية من الإدمان من أهم مسؤوليات الأسرة و المدرسة و الإعلام و مجال العمل. ففي الأسرة يجب تنشئة الأطفال على القيم الدينية الصحيحة ، و في المدرسة يجب التوعية بأخطار التعاطي و الإدمان و ذلك بالإستعانة بالأخصائيين النفسيين و الإجتماعيين.
