ولد محمد أنور السادات أو أنور السادات، كما عرف في ٢٥ ديسمبر ١٩١٨، في قرية ميت أبو الكوم، مركز تلا، محافظة المنوفية، لأسره مكونه من ١٣ أخ وأخت, والتحق بكتاب القرية ثم انتقل إلى مدرسة الأقباط الابتدائية بطوخ دلكا وحصل منها على الشهادة الابتدائية .
أنور السادات الواقف إلى اليمين بين زملائه فى المدرسة
عام ١٩٢٥، انتقل محمد أنور السادات إلى القاهرة بعد عودة أبيه من السودان، على اثر مقتل السير لي ستاك، قائد الجيش الانجليزي في السودان، حيث كان من تداعيات هذا الحادث أن فرضت بريطانيا على مصر عودة الجيش المصري من السودان، فقد كان والد السادات يعمل كاتبا بالمستشفى العسكري بالسودان.
التحق السادات بالعديد من مدارس القاهرة، مدرسة الجمعية الخيرية الإسلامية، ثم مدرسة السلطان حسين بمصر الجديدة، فمدرسة فؤاد الأول الثانوية، ثم مدرسة رقى المعارف بشبرا، وحصل من الأخيرة على الثانوية العامة.
السادات فى صوره التخرج من الكلية الحربية ١٩٣٨عام ١٩٣٦ أبرم مصطفى النحاس باشا، رئيس وزراء مصر، معاهدة ١٩٣٦ مع بريطانيا، والتي سمحت بأتساع الجيش المصري ودخل على أثرها أنور السادات وجمال عبد الناصر ومجموعه كبيرة من رموز ثورة يوليو إلى الكلية الحربية .
عام ١٩٣٨تخرج السادات من الكلية الحربية وألحق بسلاح المشاة بالإسكندرية، وفى العام نفسه (١٩٣٨) نقل إلى منقباد وهناك التقى لأول مره بالرئيس جمال عبد الناصر، وانتقل فى أول أكتوبر عام ١٩٣٩ لسلاح الإشارة ، وبسبب اتصالاته بالألمان قبض عليه وصدر في عام ١٩٤٢ النطق الملكي السامي بالاستغناء عن خدمات اليوزباشي محمد أنور السادات .
اقتيد السادات، بعد خلع الرتبة العسكرية عنه، إلى سجن الأجانب ومن سجن الأجانب إلى معتقل ماقوسه، ثم معتقل الزيتون قرب القاهرة، وهرب من المعتقل عام ١٩٤٤ وظل مختبئا حتى عام ١٩٤٥، حيث سقطت الأحكام العرفية وبذلك انتهى اعتقاله حسب القانون .
أثناء فتره هروبه عمل السادات تباعا على عربه لوري، كما عمل تباعا ينقل الأحجار من المراكب النيلية لاستخدامها في الرصف، وفى عام ١٩٤٥ انتقل إلى بلدة أبو كبير في الشرقية حيث اشترك في شق ترعة الصاوي .
عام ١٩٤٦ اتهم السادات في قضيه مقتل أمين عثمان، الذي كان يعد صديقا للانجليز ومساندا قويا لبقائهم في مصر، وبعد قضاء ٣١ شهرا بالسجن حكم عليه بالبراءة , ثم التحق بعد ذلك بالعمل الصحفي، حيث عمل بجريدة المصور، واخذ في كتابة سلسله مقالات دوريه بعنوان ٣٠ شهرا في السجن بقلم اليوزباشي أنور السادات، كما مارس بعض الأعمال الحرة .

عام ١٩٥٠ عاد إلى القوات المسلحة ( بمساعدة زميله القديم يوسف رشاد طبيب الملك الخاص ) برتبه يوزباشي، على الرغم من أن زملاؤه في الرتبة كانوا قد سبقوه برته الصاغ والبكباشي , وقد رقى إلى رتبه الصاغ ١٩٥٠ ثم إلى رتبه البكباشي عام ١٩٥١، وفى العام نفسه اختاره عبد الناصر عضوا بالهيئة التأسيسيه لحركه الضباط الأحرار .
شارك السادات فى ثورة يوليو ١٩٥٢ والقي بيانها، وكانت مهمته يوم الثورة الاستيلاء على الإذاعة ، كما حمل مع محمد نجيب إلى الإسكندرية الإنذار الذي وجهه الجيش إلى الملك للتنازل عن العرش.
خلال الفترة ١٩٥٣ – ١٩٧٠ تولى أنور السادات العديد من المناصب :
١٩٥٤ عين السادات سكرتيرا عاما ورئيسا لمنظمة المؤتمر الإسلامي .(محكمة الشعب )
١٩٥٧ تقلد السادات منصب الأمين العام للإتحاد القومي، حزب الحكومة ، وظل بذلك الموقع
حتى حل محله الإتحاد الإشتراكى العربي في عام ١٩٦٢.
١٩٥٥- ١٩٥٦ تولى السادات منصب رئيس تحرير جريدة الجمهورية .
١٩٥٧-١٩٦٠ تولى السادات منصب نائب رئيس مجلس الشعب .
١٩٦٠- ١٩٦٨ تولى السادات منصب رئيس مجلس الشعب .
١٩٦١ تولى السادات منصب رئيس مجلس التضامن الافرو أسيوى .
١٩٦١ وبعد تكوين الجمهورية العربية المتحدة أصبح السادات رئيساً لمجلس الأمة الموحد
١٩٦٢ انضم السادات للجنة التنفيذية العليا للإتحاد الإشتراكى العربي ، وصار عضواً في المجلس الرئاسي (٢٧ من سبتمبر ١٩٦٢- ٢٧ من مارس ١٩٦٤)
١٩٦٢ على أثر انفصال سوريا عن الجمهورية العربية المتحدة، عمل السادات كرئيس مشارك للجمعية التأسيسية المكونة من (٢٠٠) عضواً التي تقدمت بميثاق العمل الوطني
١٩٦٩- ١٩٧٠ عين السادات نائبا لرئيس الجمهورية .
عام ١٩٧٠ تولى السادات رئاسة مصر خلفا للرئيس جمال عبد الناصر
عام ١٩٧١ قاد حركة التصحيح لمسار ثورة ٢٣ من يوليو ١٩٥٢، في ١٥ من مايو ١٩٧١.
عام ١٩٧٣ تولى رئاسة الوزارة وكذلك فى أعوام ١٩٧٤ و ١٩٨١.
عام ١٩٧٣ قاد السادات مصر والعرب نحو تحقيق نصر حرب أكتوبر التى أدت إلى استرداد مصر كامل أراضيها المحتلة .
عام ١٩٧٤ اتخذ السادات قرار الانفتاح الاقتصادي ، الذي أعاد النظام الرأسمالي للاقتصاد المصري
عام ١٩٧٥ قام السادات بافتتاح قناة السويس بعد تطهيرها من أثار العدوان
عام ١٩٧٧ قام السادات بمبادرة شجاعة من اجل إحلال السلام فى الشرق الأوسط، وأعلن فى مجلس الشعب المصرى انه على استعداد للسفر إلى إسرائيل وإلقاء خطاب فى الكنيست الاسرائيلى، فكانت زيارة القدس فى العشرين من نوفمبر ١٩٧٧
عام ١٩٧٨ وقع الرئيس السادات على إطار السلام لاتفاقيه كامب ديفيد بحضور الرئيس الامريكى جيمى كارتر ورئيس الوزراء الاسرائيلى مناخيم بيجين .
عام ١٩٧٨ نال الرئيس السادات مناصفة مع رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي مناخيم بغين جائزة نوبل للسلام للجهود الحثيثة في تحقيق السلام في منطقة الشرق الأوسط .
عام ١٩٧٩ وقع الرئيس السادات على إطار السلام النهائي بين مصر وإسرائيل -معاهدة كامب ديفيد- بحضور الرئيس الامريكى جيمي كارتر ورئيس الوزراء الاسرائيلى مناخيم بيجين .
انتهى حكم السادات باغتياله أثناء الاحتفال بذكرى حرب ٦ أكتوبر عام ١٩٨١، إذ قام خالد الاسلامبولي وآخرون بإطلاق النار عليه أثناء الاستعراض العسكري .
يعد أنور السادات الرئيس الثالث لجمهورية مصر العربية حيث استمر حكمه ما بين عامي ١٩٧٠ و١٩٨١.
عام ١٩٧٦ أعاد السادات الأحزاب السياسية لمصر بعد أن ألغيت بعد قيام الثورة المصرية, حيث أسس الحزب الوطني الديمقراطي وترأسه وشارك في تأسيس حزب العمل الاشتراكي .
