فيما قدرت اليونسيف عدد أطفال الشوارع فى مصر بنحو 2 مليون طفل.
وأشار، إلى أنه لا يمكن حل تلك المشكلة، إلا عقب التمكن من السيطرة على تلك المؤشرات.
ولفت، إلى عدم وجود إحصائيات نهائية واضحة، عن عدد أطفال الشوارع رغم المحاولات من قبل بعض الجهات لإظهار عددهم، فاليونيسيف أشارت إلى أن عدد الأطفال يتراوح من 200 ألف إلى مليون طفل، وكذلك أشار مركز الطفولة والأمومة عام 2009، أن عدد الأطفال بلغ 5229 طفل في القاهرة وحدها.
وأوضح أن أطفال الشوراع ينقسموا إلى ثلاث فئات طبقًا لليونيسيف الأولى: أطفال يهربون من أسرهم ويقطنون الشوارع، والثانية يعملون في الشارع ويصرفون على أنفسهم، ولكن يعودون إلى أسرهم، وأما الفئة الثالثة فهي الاطفال الذين يعملون فى الشارع واسرهم تقيم بالشارع وهو الجيل الثانى من الفئة الاولى.( )
