عالم رياضيات و فلك عاش في القرن الثالث للهجر عاش الماهوني ببغداد و آان لن قدر معروف بين علماء الرياضيات و الفلك و خلال حياته المجهولة ابدع معادلة سميت باسمه بين علماء العرب و الغرب
و من اهم انجازاته حله لثلاث معادلات تكعيبية اولها معادلة التي سميت باسمه و اصبح يشتغل في مسألة ارخميدس
اشتغل ايضا بعلم الفلك و الف ارصاد فلكية و رصد قيمة ميل فلك البروج و كان يعمل على شرح بعض الكتب اليونانية و شرح آتاب في هندسة اقليدس
