استولى الملك سرجون الأكادي على إقليم البحرين بما فيها الجزيرة الصغيرة المحتفظة بالاسم حالياً في العام 2300 قبل الميلاد وذكر الآكادي أن بالبحرين قبيلة تدعى "آكاروم" كانت تدفع له جزية سنوية
