قد تسفر العملية الإنتاجية عن خروج أكثر من منتج فى نفس الوقت. وقد يحدث ذلك عندما يتم إنتاج منتجات مشتركة أو عند إنتاج منتج رئيسى وآخر فرعى. وعندما لا تكون تكاليف التشكيل قابلة للتحديد لكل منتج على حده عندئذ يتم توزيعها بين المنتجات باستخدام أساس منطقى وثابت.
