تعتبر مسألة اكتساب اللغة لدى الأطفال في جميع المراحل من أهم القضايا اللغوية التي اهتم بها علماء العرب والغرب . لدينا نظرية تشومسكي والتي تعتبر أحدث الآراء في الفكر اللغوي الغربي في هذا المجال المتمثلة في النظرية الفطرية أو ما يعرف بنظرية تحليل المعلومات , وما يربطها من صلة بعملية اكتساب اللغة في التراث اللغوي العربي . تعددت مسميات نظرية تشومسكي عند الباحثين العرب , فمنهم من أطلق عليها نظرية تحليل المعلومات والنظرية العقلية
النفسية , وقد يطلق عليها البعض النظرية التوليدية التحويلية . وكلها تدور حول ما أطلق عليه تشومسكي مصطلح الكفاية اللغوية , أي تلك القدرة أو الموهبة الفطرية التي منحها الله للإنسان, فاستطاع عن ( Competence ) طريقها أن ينتج ما لا يحصى من المفردات والتركيبات اللغوية . لذا فإننا نميل إلى تسميتها بالنظرية الفطرية , لكون ذلك أقرب إلى واقعها وأكثر اختصاراً من المصطلحات السابقة . يقصد بالفطرة اللغوية تلك الصفة التي منحها الله للإنسان فاستطاع عن طريقها انتاج وتوليد اللغة . حيث حاول تشومسكي أن يفسر عملية اكتساب اللغة عند الطفل من خلال ما أسماه (( تحليل المعلومات )) , ويقصد بذلك أن ذهن الطفل يقوم باختزال المعلومات وتحليلها والقياس عليها
