يهدف هذا البحث الى دراسة المكان والحرية في رواية الاشجار واغتيال مرزوق لعبد الرحمان منيف؛ وهو مكون من فصلين حيث خصصنا الفصل الاول للجانب النظري وتطرقنا فيه الى المفهومين اللغوي والاصطلاحي لكل من المكان والحرية ؛ كما تطرقنا ايضا الى المكان الروائي عند كثير من الباحثين العرب والغرب.
اما بخصوص الفصل الثاني فتناولنا فيه دراسة كل من المكان والحرية في الرواية وذلك من خلال استنباط الامكنة وفق تقسيم "غاستون باشلار" "المكان الاليف" و"المكان المعادي" ؛ اذ وجدنا ان الامكنة المعادية كانت المسيطرة على عموم الرواية ؛ كما القى هذا الفصل الضوء على الحرية في الرواية ؛ وذلك من خلال فضاءات الرواية والتي قسمناها الى فضاء "الانا" وفضاء "الاخر" حيث كان الاول فضاءا للقمع واللاحرية الذي يمثله العالم العربي اما الثاني فكان فضاء ا للحرية والعدل والذي يمثله العالم الغربي.
