رفض كتاب ومثقفو النظرية الاستعمارية الاندماج في الحضارة الغربية، وانتقدوا سياسة الإقصاء والتهميش والهيمنة المركزية، ورفضوا كذلك الاستلاب والتدجين، فدعوا في المقابل إلى ثقافة وطنية أصيلة، ونادوا بالهوية القومية الجامعة
