يعاني ملايين الناس في العالم من مرض باركنسون، داء باركنسون حالياً واحداً من أكثر الأمراض العصبية انتشارا، وهو يصيب 10 في المئة من الناس بعد سن 65 سنة. الدول العربية يبلغ عدد سكانها 315 مليون وذكرت الدول أن معدل انتشار المرض والإصابة هو 4.5 لكل 100،000 تقريبا. لا يعرف مدى انتشار هذا المرض في المملكة العربية السعودية. لوحظ في دراسة نشرت أجريت في عام 1993 من قبل فريق من الباحثين في المملكة العربية السعودية لتحديد مدى انتشار مرض باركسون والنتائج التي توصلوا إليها إلى جميع السكان في المملكة العربية السعودية بعد الاطلاع 23227 ووجد الباحثون أن 0.27٪ من السكان عانوا من مرض باركسون. وتراوحت تقديرات معدل انتشار من ثماني دول اوروبية من 65.6 لكل 100،000. الى الان من الصعب الحصول على نتيجة وإحصاءات دقيقة عن مرض باركنسون معدلات الانتشار والإصابة غير متناسقة من دولة إلى أخرى.
