بعد السنة الاولى من الهجرة فرض الجهاد و ذلك أذن الرسول صلى الله عليه و سلم اصحابه لمحاربة المشركين و قد قاد الرسول سبعا و عشرين غزوة ،و قاتل في تسع منها و نذكر من بين هذه الغزوات:
غزوة بدر: كان المكان عند بئر بدر الواقع بين مكة و المدينة فيى١٧ رمضان ٢ هجري ،و رغم قلة عدد المسلمين إلا أنهم حققوا فوزا عظيما على المشركين.
غزوة أحد: و كان ذلك في ٨ شوال من العام الثالث للهجرة عند سفح جبل احد شمال المدينة و كان النصر في البداية حليف المسلمين لكن النتيجة تغيرت بعدما خالف الرماة وصية الرسول صلى الله عليه و سلم.
غزوة الأحزاب: و وقعت هذه هذه الغزوة في شهر شوال من السنة الخامسة للهجرة و فيها اجتمعت قريش بحلفائها و هاجموا المدينة المنورة ،فقام المسلمون بحفر خندق حول المدينة و ألحقوا هزيمة نكراء بالمشركين و قد سميت بغزوة خندق.
